FREE Umpqua River Stealhead fishing trip for Vetrans and First Responders!
About the trip
This is a FREE day fishing trip on the Umpqua River with North Umpqua Outfitters. This trip is for Veteran and First Responders only!Activity details
Step into a world of serenity and adventure as you drift through the legendary geology of the North Umpqua River. Guided by seasoned locals who have spent countless hours mastering its waters, this is not just a fishing trip- it’s an unforgettable journey into the heart of Oregon wild beauty.
Picture yourself in a classic wooden drift boat, crafted for both elegance and utility, gliding over the emerald waters. Without the hum of motors to disrupt the peace, the river’s natural symphony surrounds you-the call of an Eagle, the whisper of the current, and the rhythmic dip of the oars in the water.
Your guides are not just experts in finding winter steelhead. They are stewards of this river. Their intimate knowledge of every riffle and run ensures you’ll be casting in all the right places, and their calm expertise lets you relax and immerse yourself in the experience.
With every cast, you’ll feel the thrill of possibility as you target one of the Pacific Northwests most iconic fish. These trips are designed for those who crave quieter, more intentional connection with nature, leaving the hustle of modern life behind.
During the summer we fish this same section of river for Beautiful Rainbow and Cut-throat Trout. Our favorite way target these is with the fly rod, and there is nothing more exhilarating than catching a beautiful Cut-Throat Trout on a light weight fly rod! These beautiful fish average 12 inches and run up to 15 inches frequently.
Our guides pride themselves on their knowledge of safety, local history, local geology, and all the local buzz. You will be supplied with everything you’ll need to stay safe, warm, and happy. We provide all the equipment you’ll need except for personal items. A trip list will be sent upon acknowledgement of policies.
What's included

What's not included
Please join us with your Oregon fishing license and Salmon Steelhead tag in hand. We recommend bringing any rain gear you may need as these trip do last between 5-6 hours as we travel 15 miles.
Clothing

- Footwear: Use old tennis shoes (aqua socks work well; we have some available) or water shoes, or warm waterproof boots.
- Hiking boots: Optional for layover day hiking (tennis shoes can be used instead).
- Muck boots or similar footwear are recommended.
- Socks: Choose polypropylene or wool.
- Shirts: Long-sleeved shirts are best for sun protection and cold weather; consider both.
- Long underwear: Opt for polypropylene, Smartwool, or Capilene.
- Sweater or jacket: Select fleece or wool.
- Headwear: Use a baseball cap or visor (with a strap) for sun protection, and a non-cotton beanie or equivalent for cold weather.
- Sunglasses with a strap; prescription glasses with a strap if needed.
- Extra shirts, pants, shorts, and shoes for use in camp; cotton is acceptable for camp clothing.
- Rain gear: REQUIRED! If you are a large person, our splash gear may be too tight, so it's good to have some heavy-duty rain gear just in case. In-camp rain gear is more comfortable than wearing splash gear all day.
Rain gear is a must: We must travel everyday regardless of the weather. NO cotton while on the boat. There is a lot of white water on the run expect to get wet. Wet cotton pulls the heat right out of you. Please NO cotton underneath while on the river.
